Different connector PIN pin selection plating is different:
In different circuit connectors, the connector PIN to be used will be different. Depending on the application, the plating of the connector PIN can also be made depending on the use case. Generally, according to the use environment, there are three main ways:
1. For the general connector PIN pin, tin plating is common, because tin is cheaper, but the texture of tin is relatively soft, in order to ensure good contact, a high contact force (at least 100 grams) is required, the number of plugging and unplugging is generally low, and it can only play a simple protective anti-corrosion role, the working temperature is relatively low, the working temperature of brass or bronze tinning can reach 110 °C, and the steel tinning can reach 190 °C. For high mating cycles, gold plating is generally required. For higher operating temperatures, other coatings are required, such as nickel plating for copper up to 340°C and nickel plating for brass or bronze up to 250°C;
2. For small signal connector PIN pins with high reliability requirements, applications that require small contact force are generally gold-plated, and the corrosion resistance of gold is also very high. Nickel is generally used as the base layer for gold plating, and most of the steel contacts are nickel-plated (copper must be plated first). Palladium has a worse electrical conductivity than gold and is mostly used to replace electroplating gold in some limited ranges. At present, the price of gold continues to rise, and there are more and more products of palladium-nickel alloys. Silver-plated contacts have very good electrical conductivity, but silver is susceptible to oxidation, so it is only used in cases;
3. In order to prevent corrosion, improve the electrical performance of the connection, reduce the temperature rise, etc., the current connector PIN pin basically needs to be electroplated. In some high-current applications, it is seen that electroplating is not done, but it is very rare;
