First, before understanding the role of PIN pin in the connector, we want to talk about what the connector is?
The connector is a component that our electronic engineers and technicians often come into contact with, and its role is to build a bridge of communication between the blocked or isolated circuits in the circuit, so as to use the current flow to make the circuit achieve the intended function.
The form and structure of the connector are ever-changing, and there are various different forms of connectors with different application objects, frequency, power, application environment, etc. For example, the connector used to light the lights on the pitch is very different from the connector used for the hard drive, and the connector used to ignite the rocket. But no matter what kind of connector it is, it is important to ensure that the current flows smoothly and reliably.
The connector is not only connected to the current, in today's rapid development of optoelectronic technology, in the optical fiber system, the carrier of the signal is light, glass and plastic instead of the wire in the ordinary circuit, but the connector is also used in the optical signal path, and their function is the same as that of the electrical connector.
Second. Why use connectors?
To illustrate, for example, our car batteries. Assuming that the battery cable is fixed and welded to the battery, the car manufacturer will increase the workload and increase the production time and cost to install the battery. When the battery is damaged and needs to be replaced, the car must be sent to the repair station, the old one will be removed from the welding, and the new one will be welded, for which more labor costs will be paid. With the connector, you can save a lot of trouble, buy a new battery from the store, disconnect the connector, remove the old battery, install a new battery, and turn the connector back on. This simple example illustrates the benefits of connectors. It makes the design and production process more convenient and flexible, and reduces production and maintenance costs.
Third, the basic structure of the connector
The basic structural parts of the connector are: contacts, insulators, shells, and accessories.
The contact is the core part of the connector to complete the electrical connection function. Generally, the contact pair is composed of positive contact pieces and negative contact parts, and the electrical connection is completed through the mating of yin and yang contacts.
Positive contacts are rigid parts that are cylindrical (round pins), square cylindrical (square pins), or flat (tabs). Positive contacts are generally made of brass, phosphor bronze.
The negative contact piece is the jack, which is the key part of the contact pair, which relies on the elastic structure to form close contact with the positive contact when it is mated with the pin and generates elastic deformation and completes the connection. There are many types of jack structures, including cylindrical type (split, neck), tuning fork type, cantilever beam type (longitudinal slotting), folding type (longitudinal slotting, figure 9), box type (square jack) and hyperboloid wire spring jack.
